Training Development

The Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) conduct Road Traffic Collision (RTC) training on a regular basis as part of the Operations Department Training program. RTC training consists of scenarios at our training area at Bufadero with multiple cars and specialised equipment.

In order to simulate the most realistic conditions firefighters often train with ‘live’ casualties (see side panel ‘Live’ RTC Exercise for photos), prior to any such exercise a Risk Assessment must be made in order to ensure that the casualty, usually an off duty colleague is completely safe.

Road Traffic Collision Instructors

The GFRS has three Road Traffic Collision instructors who have undergone two weeks of rigorous theoretical and practical training in Moreton-in-the-Marsh, obtaining the vital RTC qualifications.

Road Traffic Collision Equipment

Holmatro Spreader SP 5240

The Holmatro Spreader is a lightweight spreader for spreading, squeezing and pulling with one tool which is equipped with CORE Technology. It has a maximum pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa and a weight of 14.5kg. It has a maximum spreading force of 280/28.6 kN/t and a spreading distance of 725mm/28.5 inches. Telescopic Ram TR 5350 LP

The 5000 series medium-sized ram with telescopic plunger is light with an improved performance and a CORE connector type. It has a maximum pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa 10443 psi and a weight of 14.6kg. It has a spreading stroke 1st plunger 375mm/14.8 inches, and a 2nd plunger 350mm/13.8 inches.

Ram Support HRS 22

The ram support is to provide a solid platform for the ram. It has a maximum load of 235/24kN/t and weighs 7.7kg.

F4 Holmatro Cutters 5040 C 1000

This Holmatro cutter is lighter, weighing at 13.1kg, and with it’s CORE connector, i-bolt technology and ergonomic control handle with improved grip makes cutting easier, quicker and safer. It has a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa, maximum cutting opening of 170mm/6.7 inches and a theoretical cutting force of 794/81 kN/t.

F1 Holmatro Cutters CU 5050I

This Holmatro cutter is lighter, weighing at 15.9kg, and with its inclined cutting jaw for more ergonomic cutting above waist height or low on the car has an improved performance. It is equipped with a CORE connector. It has a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa, maximum cutting opening of 182mm/7.2 inches and a theoretical cutting force of 1389/141.6 kN/t

Core Hose C 15 OU

Hydraulic hose 10 metres long and is used with the cutters, spreaders and ram. It has bend restrictor on both sides, CORE connector is quicker and safer. It has a maximum working pressure of 720.72 bar/MPa and weighs 6.9kg.

Airbag protection cover for application in vehicles to stop the impact of an airbag being deployed after a road traffic collision.

Holmatro FTW 1800 C Foot Operated Pump

Portable Foot operated 2-stage pump with CORE Technology. It weighs 11.7 kg and it’s maximum operating pressure is >400 psi. It’s output per stroke is 28cc at stage 1, and 2,3cc at stage 2. It has a maximum capacity 220 kN.

General Purpose Cutter CU 4007 C

General purpose cutter with i-bolt technology. It is has CORE connector and is quicker, safer and easier to use as it weighs at 3.8 kg. It has a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa, a theoretical cutting force of 220/22.4 kN/ta and a maximum cutting opening of 59mm/2.3 inches.

This hand pump at 3.5 kg is compact and lightweight for single-acting tools. It has a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa.

Holmatro Doo Opener HDO 100

The Holmatro door opener is a single-acting hydraulic door opener. It weighs 6.7 kg and has a CORE connector. It has a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa, maximum spreading force of 100/10.2 kN/t, spreading jack capacity of 100/10.2 kN/t and a retracted and extended length of 300 mm and 430 mm respectively.

The Spider pump has a CORE connector for simultaneous operation of two tools with ECO whisper mode. It weighs 23.4 kg, has a soft-grip carrying handle and a hydraulic oil level indicator. It has 3 stages, 4-stroke engine and a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa.

The Holmatro Duo fuel pump is a two x two stage axial pump. It has a CORE connector, weighs 24.9 kg, fuel and hydraulic oil level and ECO electronic engine speed control. It has a maximum working pressure of 720/72 bar/MPa.

Holmatro Lifting Bag HLB 20

The Holmatro high-pressure lifting bag is designed for maximum safety and control when lifting heavy objects. It weighs 5.6 kg and has a maximum working pressure of 12/1.2 bar/MPa, maximum lifting capacity of 210/21.4 kN/t, maximum inflation height of 266 mm / 10.5 inches and a maximum lifting capacity at 12 bar/174 psi of 210/21.4 kN/t.

Low Pressure Lifting Bag System LAB 2

Low Pressure Lifting Bag are a set of two low pressure lifting bags with air hose, double control valve and a reducer. It weighs 9 kg (per pair), has a maximum working pressure of 0.5/1 bar/MPa, maximum inflation height of 580 mm / 22.8 inches and maximum lifting capacity 35.3 / 3.6 kN/t.

Stab-Fast Basic

The Stab-Fast is a simple and versatile stabilization system. It has numerous height adjustment options and weighing at 19 kg makes it easier to handle. It has an automatic locking pneumatic dampening of the telescopic section. It has a maximum load of 1.500 kg, an extended length of 1.720 mm and a strap length of 5.000 mm.
