What is BA?

The self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is an essential important piece of equipment to help firefighters work which provides the greatest amount of airway protection from toxic gas, unbreathable air and harmful particulates resulting from the fire.

Instructors

The GFRS has three BA instructors who have undergone five weeks of rigorous theoretical and practical training in Moreton-in-the-Marsh. They have obtained three vital qualifications –

  • Breathing Apparatus Instructor;
  • Fire Behaviour Instructor;
  • Tactical Ventilation Instructor.
BA Training

BA is one of the four core subjects.  BA training is carried at different venues throughout Gibraltar to maintain competence levels by our three BA instructors.  All three instructors were qualified by the Fire Service College where they attended the Breathing Apparatus Instructor (BA) and the Fire Behaviour Training Instructor’s (FBTI) course.
