On Friday the 21 September 2001 members of the Gibraltar City (Now the GFRS) and Defence Fire Services (Now the AFRS) joined in a fund raising venture together with GBC Radio. This was in aid of the families of the New York Fire Department fire-fighters who died tragically in their line of duty during the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre. The fire-fighters collected money throughout Gibraltar while GBC staged a road show. Approximately £15,000 was donated to this venture by the members of the community and visitors to the Rock.
